The main directions of cooperation are application of industrial logic controllers for process automation in mining and metallurgy, development and commissioning of the speed control systems for the technological mechanisms with using frequency converters, elaboration of human-machine interface (HMI) and SCADA systems. Due to the collaboration on the base of Kryvyi Rih National University were established the specialized laboratories of industrial controllers, equipped with the latest automation tools based on microprocessors (industrial controllers’ series Premium, Micro, Modicon M340, Twido, programmable relay Zelio and Zelio 2, frequency converters series Altivar, HMI devices series Magelis), communication hardware and SCADA software.

Since March 2010, Official Training Center of Schneider Electric created on the base of Kryvyi Rih National University, which entitled to carry out training and retraining of specialists in the field of development of automation systems and industrial networks based on programmable logic controllers. Since the establishment of training center at its base have already passed training specialists from PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih", PJSC Northern Mining", PJSC Research and Design Institute "Mehanobrchormet" etc.

The University cooperates with the company Siemens. The company conducts educational practical training on the base of the University with the involvement of industrial companies’ w orkers who are engaged in the sphere of automation of Technological process, as well as interested teachers of the University.

Since 2009 the department works with subsidiary enterprises “Festo Ukraine” international concern Festo that has been a leader in the sphere of pneumatic automation and has been one of the leading companies in the sphere of electronics means of administration, as well as advanced training of staff’s qualification.  Within the cooperation with “Festo Ukraine” it was created a laboratory of elements of automation and robotechnics (cab. 200a)   as a part of the department. The laboratory is  furnished  with  stands of intellectual device of the pneumatic automation.

In 2009 all the teachers’ staff had the training in usage of didactic devices of the pneumatic automation in teaching process and production condition. After this they got  certificates of upgrade qualifications.

At present the Department is part of Working Committee Appa "Enlightenment and training". The Committee includes 16 members - representatives of the departments KPI, NUFT, Lviv Polytechnic, NURE, Kryvyi Rih National University, Odessa Communications Academy, Description Manual APPA, as well as representatives from the customers - Chernobyl, AMKR, SE "Festo-Ukraine", "Klinkmann-Ukraine" integrator "Soyuztsvetavtomatika".

Currently the Department prepares the workers and students of Ukraine to participate in international competitions of professional skills WorldSkills once in two years, as well as the establishment of a training centre in preparation for the exams for the certificate of the specialist in automation in two directions according to the requirements of ISA:

  • Certified Automation Professional® (CAP®) Program
  • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician® (CCST®) Program


    Kryvyi Rih National University  in cooperation with "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" and "Festo" is preparing a project proposal for submission to the competition within the Horizon 2020 program for the project with the title «Smart Service of Repair and Maintenance», devoted to research and development intellectual service system and repair parts. Conceptually, the system will be an intelligent working environment, designed for use in conditions of flexible production, also it has the ability to adapt to a removable basket for service orders, and consists of:

    • «smart" saving of spare parts and equipment to the optimization of their number and assortment;

    • workplaces are optimized in the operation under the performance of various repair problems with the functioning of collecting statistics management system analysis and repair history of the formation of repair work principles;

    • universal programmed stand for calibration of the measuring equipment;

    • Intelligent Transportation System, performing route optimization functions, and consists of "smart" vehicles that exchange information with each other.

    Key approaches, based on which it is planned to carry out the development of the principles of organization, functioning and control system:

    • Industry 4.0;
    • 5S;
    • White Metallurgy;
    • Big Data;
    • ISA95-ISA88.

    Scientific research in the framework of the project will be aimed at improving the theory of intellectual control distributed cyber-physical systems for solving problems of optimization of service processes and repair of industrial equipment on the basis of Industry 4.0. Formed following research objectives:

    1. The development, unification and optimization of the database structure to create intelligent store of spare parts; creation of an information technology based on neural networks, designed to search for analogues with insufficient information; determining the the minimum of necessary assortment and number of spare devices and details in stock.
    2. Analysis of the methods of designing the transport service network; Development of expert system for planning delivery of details and tools, depending on the type of device and the type of serviced breakage, study optimization algorithms for transport problems intrashop, intraplant and external logistics.
    3. Study of the statistical characteristics of industrial equipment failure rate; identify seasonal trends, analyse indicators of quality and resiliency of
      control system.

    Creation of information technology for minimizing service time and repair of industrial equipment; improving the theory of enterprise management  according to principles of the concept Industry 4.0, with a variable configuration of workplaces and flexible methodologies of maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.

    Since December 2013 SIHE “Kryvyi Rih National University” takes part in TEMPUS Joint European Project HETES - Higher engineering training for environmentally sustainable industrial development (543966-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR).

    The core objective of the project is to improve the relevance of higher engineering education in Ukraine towards the challenges of current and future industrial transformation aimed at sustainable development and climate stabilization.

    This capacious target will be addressed through the following specific objectives to be achieved within the HETES project:

    • to develop the “Environmentally Sustainable Industrial Development” training course for MSc, PhD Programmes and LLL audience covering industrial sectors of Mining, Metallurgy, Energy and Manufacturing;

    • to bring the engineering curriculum where the interdisciplinary environmental aspects are adequately focused;

    • to create the Interfaculty Sustainable Development Centres in five Ukrainian universities;

    • to establish a platform for networking between the academia, research, industry and authorities towards the needs of sustainable society.
